SEMEN AND BULL FERTILITY TESTING
Bull infertility can be a major cause of infertility in a herd. It is rare for a bull to be completely infertile but subfertile bulls are more common and up to 20% of bulls on examination are found to be in one of these 2 categories. We have found that in many cases by the time the bull is found to be at fault it is too late – A month of the breeding season has passed before the farmer realises a lot of cows are repeating and upon ultrasound exam they are found not to be in calf.
We now offer a Bull Breeding Soundness examination. This is a standardised method of examining bulls before they are to be used for breeding and involves a full physical, clinical and laboratory semen examination +/- assessment of mating ability to advise on the bull’s suitability for breeding. A full Veterinary report is issued after the examination.
